Spreading the Model
Education
is a way to overcome disadvantage and has long been seen as a way out
of poverty.
Although there is much debate on the factors that contribute to successful
education,
we believe for the most disadvantaged young people to achieve, we need
to build ‘educational capital’
i.e. surround young people with a connected programme of support,
building on their own determination to achieve.
‘It’s
Your Life’, builds this educational capital through quality experiences
with academic and
personal mentoring, social and vocational networking and family support,
providing a
more effective way of educating the most disadvantaged young people.
This year Morpeth School will move the project into the Sixth Form as
well as supporting Year 10 and 11 pupils.
The dissemination
of good practice will happen through local networks of schools and the
delivery
of workshops for the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust at local
and national conference
We believe
it is possible to provide the benefits of the Globetown Learning
Community model to others
who are using education to address the cycle of deprivation that runs
across generations of families.
Globetown
Learning Community is developing a training model to :
• Train
teachers to deliver the GLC model
• Train family support workers to manage the expectations and
aspiration of parents and the communities
• To continue pedagogy research to make education relevant and
successful
• To provide leadership training to mentors
• Support third sector and voluntary organisations to deliver
this model
